Beau-Ideal Ltd. was incorporated and registered in England as a limited company in 1996. The company was founded by former Grand Prix car designer Chris Murphy following the closure of Team Lotus, where Chris was employed as chief designer and chief engineer, responsible for the Lotus Grand Prix cars driven by Mikka Hakkinen, Johnny Herbert and Allesandro Zanardi.

Beau-Ideal Ltd. is in two parts. There is a race engineering and design consultancy division (www.beau-ideal.com) and the classic car hire division (www.beau-ideal.co.uk). The classic car hire project was set up as a means of utilizing Chris' extensive personal collection of classic and historic competition cars, that had been built up over the 13-year period that Chris was gainfully employed designing racing cars.

Beau Ideal operates from offices in Thickthorn Hall a Regency mansion in Norfolk, and a design studio and workshop in a nearby converted Victorian chapel. The classic car collection is maintained to a high standard by local motor engineer Andrew Harmer of Brooke Garage.

Beau-Ideal classic car hire has featured in several newspaper, magazine and national TV features, notably The Times, Mail on Sunday, Classic Cars, EVO, Auto Bild, ITV's Wish you were here and the BBC holiday programme.

Chris Murphy can be seen out and about at historic festivals and events, using the competition cars from the collection for the purpose for which they were intended, e.g. Historic race festivals, BRDC 50's sports car races, Historic Formula junior races and Classic rallies.
